The Role of the National Islamic Committee on Scouting

The National Islamic Committee on Scouting plays a number of roles in supporting Muslim Scouting throughout the United States. Chartered by the National Council, the Committee:

• Serves as an Advisory Committee to the Boy Scouts of America
• Supports Local Councils
• Promotes Cooperative Contacts
• Develops and Distributes Publications
• Recruits Chaplains
• Provides National Programming
• Provides Leadership Development

Advisory Committee Functions

• Member of the BSA's National Relationships Committee
• Member of the BSA's Religious Relationships Sub-Committee
• Provides advice on scheduling of national programs calendar issues
• Works closely with the BSA's Relationships Division

Local Council Support Functions:

• Assists in membership growth of units sponsored by Muslim organizations
• Promotes Islamic religious emblems and awards
• Creates opportunities for Muslim youth within the Scouting program
• Promotes financial support of local councils

Promoting Cooperative Contacts with:

• National Islamic organizations (i.e. ICOS, ISNA, ICNA, MYNA, UMMA)
• Council of Ullama organizations
• Islamic Educational organizations
• Islamic community at large
• Develop and Distribute Publications and Materials

  • Cub program and activity guides
  • Other program guides (i.e. "Rehbar-Guide for Scouts Executive.")
• Support Materials (examples):

• Provide National Programming
