The National Islamic Committee on Scouting plays a number of roles in supporting Muslim Scouting throughout the United States. Chartered by the National Council, the Committee:
- Serves as an Advisory Committee to the Boy Scouts of America
- Supports Local Councils
- Promotes Cooperative Contacts
- Develops and Distributes Publications
- Recruits Chaplains
- Provides National Programming
- Provides Leadership Development
Advisory Committee Functions
- Member of the BSA's National Relationships Committee
- Member of the BSA's Religious Relationships Sub-Committee
- Provides advice on scheduling of national programs calendar issues
- Works closely with the BSA's Relationships Division
Local Council Support Functions:
- Assists in membership growth of units sponsored by Muslim organizations
- Promotes Islamic religious emblems and awards
- Creates opportunities for Muslim youth within the Scouting program
- Promotes financial support of local councils
Promoting Cooperative Contacts with:
- National Islamic organizations (i.e. ICOS, ISNA, ICNA, MYNA, UMMA)
- Council of Ullama organizations
- Islamic Educational organizations
- Islamic community at large
- Develop and Distribute Publications and Materials
- Literature (examples):

- Cub program and activity guides
- Other program guides (i.e. "Rehbar-Guide for Scouts Executive.")
